If you thought that you kept Kosher by refraining from eating pig and shellfish and separated milk and meat products, you’re clearly wrong. A group of orthodox rabbis want to expand Kahrut laws to the Internet, particularly the use of mobile phones to surf the Web.

Many religious and non-religious residences place filters on their home computers to prevent the viewing of forbidden Web-sites. A group of rabbis now signed a petition to support a cell phone company that offers the same data restrictions on cell phone Web-surfing.

In support of finding a “Kosher” cell phone plan, one of the rabbis associated with the program said:

“The first (company) to act on the issue and operate clean internet – we will put all of our collective weight into committing that students be in places that has filtered internet.”
